Back Beach Poems
This week we have started looking at poetry. We wrote some poems in writing, listened to some during library time and we read some during group reading time.
In writing, Mrs O showed us a photo of her family at Black Beach. We used the photo to help us make a list of vocabulary. We then used this 'bank' of words to write poems. Mrs O taught us how to write a haiku and we also looked at free verse poems. We could choose what we wanted to write. Here are some of our poems. We hope you enjoy them.
Midnight Sand
Midnight sand
Black as clay
Soft and squishy
Damp and cold
Sandy Beach
Starfish are red
Freezing cold sand
Running down the sand
Cold Beach Day
Cold sand in my hand
Big waves crashing on the rocks
Sinking when I step
Midnight Beach
Midnight freezing cold
Like sinking sand, gooey
Damp, soft and squishy
Dark, wet, winter day
Dark Winter Evening
On a dark
winter evening
I went to
the beach
the sun was shining
on the wavy
waterA free verse poem by Mackenzie and Ahi
Winter Beach
On a dark and damp
winter day
Freezing cold sand
Runny sand as it slips
out of your hands.
A free verse by Shannon and Pama
After Day
Gooey damp sand
darkens as the night falls
The cold wind
flows across the beach
No more dogs barking
This is an afternoon
of a cold evening
The Beach
The foggy waves washing
up on the sea shore.
A misty beach on a
cold misty day.
A free verse poem by Cameron and Mason
Beach Feelings
The soft squishy sand
Black sand drizzling through my hands
I hear birds diving
A haiku by Asha
The Misty Beach
Dark midnight sand
Brushing against my feet
in the wind. My body
starts to shiver and quiver.
The slimy rocks
make my legs shake.
I have an earthquake
in my body.
A free verse poem by Sophie
Black Sand
Itchy salt sticking
To my fingers.
Rocky wall at my eye,
Crumbly sand as
I step,
Black sand through
my toes.
A free verse by Abbie
Freezing Black Sand
Black sand
slippery
freezing cold
midnight
soft drippy
sand
A free verse poem by Aidan and Brayden
Tomorrow we will be writing poems from our own holidays. Watch this space.....
