Making a birds nest with friends.

making a birds nest

Emily, Abbie, Rilee, Jaram and me, Brayden made a birds nest out of mowed grass, moss, leaves, daisies, and flower petals. We found 2 birds nests. One of them was Sophie's pet sparrows nest and one was a black birds nest. There was 5 speckled brown eggs on Monday. On Tuesday there was only 3 eggs left at morning tea. At lunch time there was still 3 eggs left, because 1 hatched and 1 broke. Today is Wednesday and there is still 3 eggs left. Emily found the birds nest, it was on the Tallest branch on the tree. I liked how Emily, Abbie, Isabelle,  Rilee, Jaram, Briana and I made this birds nest, probably it's destroyed today.

Cross Country by Abbie

Cross Country

Today is the day. It is cross-country! I was so nervous. My heart was pumping faster than a cheetah running away from zookeeper. I had my goal there in my heart. I just knew I could get 1st, 2nd or 3rd. I said to myself “ I can win this year!” Running is what I am good at. It is school time now I am going to school. It is morning meeting for today. I couldn’t lean I was so not concentrating I was thinking about cross-country in the afternoon. It is morning tea time and my heart is still pumping fast. 15 minutes later and it is time to come back into the class room. We are going out for cross country and we walk out the class room and onto the field. I wasn’t so nervous now. “11yr old girls race” said Mr Ritai in a happy voice. I had to wait a long time for my race because 8yr old girls are last. 1 hour later Mr Ritai said 8yr old girls race. “Yay my race” I said. I am so happy that I don’t have to go up the big hill,”Phew” I said with excitement. ”Bang,” “crash” went Mr Ritai’s bangers. The race had started.

The Koru by Aidan

It's colourful like a rainbow
Flashing in the air.
It's shimmery, shiny
Like a golden sword.
As smooth as a crystal.
As strong as a hard rock.
The koru waving around
As fast as the wind.

Adventures of Poem by Briana

The Powerful Koru by Rilee

It looks like a rainbow in the sunlight,
It is a huge koru wrapped around my arm,
It looks like a lizards tail,
It's spiky on the edges,
A swirly piece of paper.

Kittens Visit Room 6

Today my kittens came to school for me to share.  When I unlocked the cage they came running out. Everyone was so excited to see them and pat them. They were getting a lot of attention from the class and Mrs O'dowda. They ran around the circle and gave everyone a little turn at patting them. All I could hear from the audience around me was "They are so cute!" I felt proud and I bet the kittens were feeling the same way. Mum was there to answer questions my class asked her about the kittens. One of the kittens went underneath the authors chair and people were saying "That kitten is under the chair". After a while she walked back out. Only some people got to hold a kitten, they were very gentle and soft with them. Gingy Jnr was licking Calebs toes and his whiskers was also tickling Calebs toes. Sophie said she loved all of the kittens and how they were so cute! Mrs O'Dowda held squeakers which is the black girl kitten. When It was question time there was a lot of questions and comments. A comment Caleb said was his favourite kitten was Ralph. Later on I had to put them back in their cage and take them to the car. On my way there with mum Maliesi's class was passing through. Maliesi took the kittens to show her class before me. They said look there's the kittens Maliesi showed us.

The end. By Eliala.

Koru Poem by Caleb

A green twirling decoration,
A hypnotism tool,
As soft as a velvet cushion,
Green as the sea at sunset,
Shaped as a spiraling rainbow

The Town of Food by Cooper

The town of food

One day there was a town called Whiterun. It rained food and it had five meals a day. It would rain meatballs, vegetables and steak for tea. For lunch they had pies, lamp sandwiches and some fruit, for afternoon tea they would have crackers and cheese, hotdogs and pumpkin soup with bread. Then for munch crunch they would have apples, bananas and kiwi fruit. For breakfast they would have pancakes with golden syrup, cornflakes with milk and yoghurt. They all lived a happy life until it went bad. The food got so big that it was not safe for them to live there. So they all ate the inside of some bread and stuck meatballs on the sides to make it float. They set sail to find a new island. On their journey they found a little island called Riverwood. They didn’t have much food there and had to eat washed up fish.

1 year later. There was not many people left because they had all died of sickness from the washed up fish. But one man spoke up and said to the people  he would return to Whiterun because there was food there. Some people wanted to join him on the meatball and bread boat to go back to Whiterun. On their journey they had close calls like pancakes falling close to them. They stopped for a little swim but a pancake landed on a person and pushed him down and down and he drowned. None of the other travellers noticed they just continued with their journey. When they saw Whiterun they were afraid to go on the island because it was like a meteor shower of pancakes. But the leader who told them to go to Whiterun went in and he ate a little cave to live in while he ate out a proper house. They all lived there and after awhile the food got smaller and they got trucks to get rid of all of the surplus food and they all lived happily ever after.

Puppy visit

On Tuesday Aidan's puppies came and ran around us. And we got to pat them they were so soft and cuddly. The white puppy was so soft and cute. I wish they could keep the white one and the brown puppy.

Reading with my buddy

Today I was reading with Amber. We were reading the ice giants. I had to keep on coming in and out of the class room, because she always said to me that the book was
boring. Finally she chose a book. I said to her do you want this book she said yes. So we settled down and read the book.
Next time we read together, I am going to look through the books and look at the blurb. By Rilee.

Reading With My Buddy

Today my Room 7 buddy Joseph, came to read with me. We read 'There Are Trolls' and 'A Fish Out Of Water'. We took turns at reading a page each. Joseph liked looking at the pictures while I read. I saw all the other students reading to their buddies and their buddies were listening really carefully. It was fun. By Caleb.

Poem about Ahi's Party

Ahi's pool party

SPLASH! under the refreshing water,

Blue tiles touch my feet as I land on the hard surface,

I hear screams of laughter as I bobbed my head out of the water from below me,

SWOOP! Gliding through the pool water,

"Happy birthday Ahi," I said.

Abbie Rules Tidy Numbers

In class today we were  learning how to use tidy numbers to answer problems like
72-49= ?

We can use place value but it is hard on this problem

 A tidy number is 10s
You can use you prior knowledge and use your rounding and family of facts to help too.

So you would change 72 into 70
70-49 = 21  and then you to have add the 2 back on from the 72
21 + 2 = 23
So  the answer is 23

We can use family of facts to check:
49 + 23 = 72

Here is a photo of mrs o and us learning about tidy number and Cooper and Asha working together

Emily working on a Can Do

This morning when we were working on our Must Do Can Do I was the only one
finished. So I got to do a Can Do. The Can Dos are when you pick an activity out of the pink box. There is lots of literacy activities in the pink box. I chose to make a sentence using the magnetic poetry. It is  when you make a sentence out of magnets. I wrote "In the night
my brother makes a scary nose and wakes me up."

Story by Shannon - lollipops Playland

Lollipops play land.
My heart was pounding as I stepped out of the car and on to the car park.  I ran to Lollipops entrance door. I had to make my feet stop or else, I would of bumped into the counter. My Aunty, my mum, my two sisters, dahlia and xanthe were way behind me. I had to wait for them because you have to pay for lollipops. My Aunty paid for us. It was 14 dollars a family. After Aunty Merril paid for us, we “Zoomed” into Lollipops. We found a table to put all our stuff on and we were on the merry-go-round like a flash in the sky. The first round on the merry-go-round I went on a horse. Dahlia went on a horse as well. Shinaye went on a tractor. Ella went on another tractor and my cousin Xanthe went in a little aeroplane. Xanthe looked so cute in the little aeroplane. An hour later it was time to go back to my Aunties house. We had hot chips for afternoon tea. We had those about 4:00. Then we had dinner at 6:00. We had homemade pizzas. Then at 8:00 we went to bed. I slept with my cousin called Dahlia. My mum, Shinaye and Ella slept up stairs.
 The End

The Ruined Wrist by Emily

The Ruined Wrist
Left, right, left, right. Swish the gentle touch of the wind picked up my hair. I left tracks through the hard, wet, grey concrete. Pumping my arms the wheel raced at lightning speed. Stumble, trip, hand out, oh no. The pain throbbed like a knife stabbing you again and again. The hard concrete made me feel like I had pins and needles through my hurt body. Sitting in terrible pain I knew the feeling. I put my arm over my throbbing wrist. Jordan my brother didn't come to help me because I didn't scream and I didn't want to tell him that I hurt my wrist. I put my left hand very gently on my wrist. I walked as slow as a slug over to the wooden step near the orange door. Then I took off my skates. The pain grew stronger as I tried to undo my laces. Step by step I walked towards the door. As soon as I got inside I waited for mum and dad to get home so I could tell them about my wrist. So Mum took me to the doctors. We walked in.  While mum had a conversation  with the lady at the counter I sat down. “Emily” the nurse called up. We walked into a room with a doctors bed covered with a white shade. The nurse said after a little chat to mum and me. “We need to get an x ray”. So I did. After the x ray,  I got to see my x ray there was a green stick fracture in my bone so I got a back slab for 2 weeks and a full cast on and I chose a colour which was yellow. I wasn’t surprised that I broke an another bone.

Cameron's Dragon Poem

My dragon
My dragon’s fire is as hot as boiling acid,
His body is as green as a leaf,
His sharp spikes are as pointy as needles,
His eyes are like glowing pools of lava,
He flies as fast as an eagle swooping down to catch his prey,
His tail is as bony as a skeleton,
That’s my dragon.

The website is:

The new vocabulary we focused on was:

Back Beach Poems

This week we have started looking at poetry. We wrote some poems in writing, listened to some during library time and we read some during group reading time.

In writing, Mrs O showed us a photo of her family at Black Beach. We used the photo to help us make a list of vocabulary. We then used this 'bank' of words to write poems. Mrs O taught us how to write a haiku and we also looked at free verse poems. We could choose what we wanted to write. Here are some of our poems. We hope you enjoy them.
